Benzodiazepines are a group of central nervous system depressants used to calm, alleviate muscle spasms, provoke sleep. Some of them as Ativan are freely sold in pharmacies. Continuous reception causes physical and psychological dependence.
According to their narcotic effect, they are similar to barbiturates and alcohol: coordination is impaired, speech is distorted, muscle tone is reduced, gait is shaken, the tongue is covered with a dense whitish coating, skin is pale, and mucous membranes are dry.
One of the brightest indicators in the analysis of urine and blood, indicating the possible presence of pathology, is the level of leukocytes. In the blood, it varies in a very wide range, but if the elevated level of white blood cells is shown in a general analysis of urine – this is an excuse to be on the alert. Most likely, you will be assigned additional diagnostic measures.
However, let’s talk about everything in details: what are the leukocytes and what functions do they perform? Why their level is so important for diagnosis and what do the numbers in the analysis form say?
Leukocytes among other human blood cells are distinguished by their large size and the ability to amoeboid movement. Their main function is to recognize and destroy foreign inclusions, from molecules to whole cells, which is true both for pathogenic microorganisms and allergens and for their own dead or sick cells. Having determined the level of leukocytes in the blood, one can judge the resistance of the organism.
Leukocyte leap up both in the analysis of blood and urine is possible in the following cases:
- inflammation and suppuration, sepsis
- infection with viruses, bacteria, fungi
- development of some types of malignant tumors
- ingress of allergens into the body
- myocardial infarction
- pregnancy, breastfeeding
- increased physical activity.
With a noticeable decrease in the level of leukocytes, it is necessary to check the lymphatic system and bone marrow, because they produce these blood cells. The number of white blood cells can also be reduced by radiation sickness, various types of typhus while taking certain medications.
Most often, blood and urine tests are used to determine the level of leukocytes. In the case of gynecological problems, a vaginal smear test can be assigned. With severe inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, when the fecal analysis is prescribed, leukocytes can be found in it. However, in this case, it is a nonspecific indicator, and it must be considered in conjunction with the patient’s complaints.
Both high and low levels of leukocytes can be possible against the background of infection.
The delivery of urine or blood tests for many is simply a formality, especially with normal health. However, do not forget about the existence of asymptomatically occurring serious diseases, the presence of which can be determined in time precisely by analysis. Doctors recommend taking urine and blood as a part of a general medical examination twice a year, it is inexpensive and not burdensome.
